Boat Ride Around Manhattan – Autour de Manhattan par bateau

For a long time I wondered what it would be like to go on a boat ride around Manhattan. Yesterday I went to 12th Avenue and 42nd Street and took the Circle Line. It was supposed to go completely around Manhattan but on the east side the tide was too low so the boat had to turn around. It was a very nice trip just the same.

Ellis Island

Ellis Island is were immigrants used to have to go through for processing before being allowed to enter the United States.  Some of them were rejected and had to go back home.  Hence it was also known as the Island of Tears.

My beautiful pictureThis is as far north as the boat went.  Normally it would have continued and gone completely around Manhattan but the tide was too low.  This happens once in awhile.  I don’t recall the name of the bridge.

  1. Gerard, your post brought back memories of visiting Ellis Island and Lady Liberty as a five or six year-old. I remember I couldn’t muster up the energy to climb the stairs inside the statue, so my father carried me much of the way. 🙂

What do you think? Que pensez-vous?
