Charlotte’s Speakeasy

A speakeasy reopened in Farmingdale a few months ago.

Il y a quelques mois qu’un speakeasy a rouvert à Farmingdale.

During Prohibition (1920 – 1933) alcoholic beverages were banned.  Illegal bars and nightclubs called speakeasies proliferated.

Pendant Prohibition (1920 – 1933) les boissons alcooliques étaient interdites.  Les bars et les boîtes de nuit illégaux, appelés les speakeasies, ont proliféré.

In Farmingdale two brothers opened up a frozen yogurt shop, Charlotte’s Frozen Yogurt, and discovered there were secret rooms and passageways.  They did some research and found out their building was a speakeasy during Prohibition.  Therefore, they decided to reopen the speakeasy. 

À Farmingale deux frères ont ouvert un magasin de yaourt glacé et ils ont découvert qu’il y avait des chambres secrètes et des passages secrets donc ils ont fait des recherches et ils ont découvert que leur bâtiment était un speakeasy pendant Prohibition. Par consequent, ils ont decidé de rouvrir le speakeasy.

This is the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, New York.  It was commissioned for the New York World’s Fair of 1964 – 1965.

Voici l’Unisphere à Flushing Meadows-Corona Park dans le Queens, New York.  Il était commissioné pour le New York World’s Fair de 1964 à 1965.

I went to the World’s Fair a number of times during the summers of 1964 and 1965 when I was 9 and 10 with my family.  I loved going there.  It was full of interesting exhibits.

Je suis allé au World’s Fair plusieurs fois pendant les étés de 1965 et 1965 quand j’avais 9 et 10 ans avec ma famille.  J’adorais y aller.  Il y avait beaucoup d’expositions intéressantes.
